Future 4 Me Board Member

Volunteer at Independent People and help young people reboot their lives... and your own.

Independent People supports 16 to 25 year olds who have experienced or are facing homelessness in the South West. We house and support around 2500 young people to build independent lives every year.
 
All our Volunteers are looked after as part of the VIP scheme.

Our aim is to make sure everyone gets something out of your volunteering experience;  you, us and the people we support, because we think we’re all VIPs.

About the role

We ask for a minimum committment of one to two evenings per month. 

The role:

We require passionate and dedicated volunteers of all ages who have experience of being in care or custody, to be a part of the Future 4 Me board.

Future 4 Me is a project run by 1625ip that works with young people who have been in care or custody to develop their aspirations and achieve their goals. The role will involve contributing directly to the development of the project and help to shape and improve the service.

The Future 4 Me board will organise and facilitate positive activities and work with our partners to promote opportunities for young people. The board will engage with service users / young people enabling them to take the lead in the development and direction of the project. 
 
Where is it? The role is based at the 1625ip Head Office on Old Market  and in the community.
Why is it needed? The Future 4 Me Board exists to shape the Future 4 Me Service for care and custody leavers, and inspire young people to reboot their lives.
Who will you be volunteering with? Young people who have experience of care and custody, as well as professional support workers to promote positive engagement.
Who will supervise you? You will be supervised and supported by the Future 4 Me Project Worker Team.
 

Key skills:

  • Passionate and dedicated to helping young people make positive choices and inspire them to achieve their goals. 
  • Ability to work alongside and relate to young people. 
  • Organisational and communication skills.
  • Capacity to offer one or two days a month, with possibility of more. 

We offer:

  • Experience in the Health and Social Care sector.
  • Travel expenses (inc. mileage where needed), lunch, free tea/coffees at offices etc.
  • Access to training.
  • Full induction, regular support and supervision.
  • Materials and equipment.
  • References for future employment (after six months of volunteering).
  • AQA Qualifications.
