Andrews Charitable Trust (ACT) and Andrews Property Group are using their shared expertise to give young care leavers a roof over their heads and support in finding work and becoming independent. Andrews Charitable Trust have pledged funding for 50 properties over 50 years for care leavers who are ready to access employment opportunities.

1625 Independent People are working in partnership with Andrews to deliver the "Establish" project, using the first of these properties.

The accommodation is suitable for care leavers who are motivated and ready to engage with employment opportunities within 6 - 12 months of being in the project. Young people will be supported by dedicated staff from 1625 Independent People's Future 4 Me project and will have the opportunity to engage with community mentors and work experience opportunities with Andrews Property Group.

Who is the project for?

  • Care leavers with low support needs, who are motivated to engage with employment opportunities.
  • Ready and willing to work but need help in finding the right job and preparing to manage work and home independently.
  • Young people aged from 16 to 25 (N.B. housing benefit will only cover the full rent amount until age 22 when it reduces to the single room allowance - shortfall would need to be met by resident).
  • Young people will be able to stay in the property for up to 2 years and will be supported to move on.

Support:

Young people will be supported by the Future 4 Me project and each young person will work with their key worker to agree a personalised support plan.

Learning and Work support:
  • Access to activities such as sport and creative opportunities in music and the arts.
  • Mentoring.
  • Independent living skills training such as budgeting, pre-tenancy training and cooking.
  • Volunteering opportunities.
  • In partnership with Andrews Charitable Trust we will work to enable young people to access work experience opportunities with Andrews Property group, if desired.
